Motivation And Mindset Hacks To Prevent Burnout
Has your motivation been lacking lately? Do you feel like you’re stuck in a creative rut? Well… you’re not the only one feeling that way and lucky for you, we’ve got some tips on how to shift your mindset and get your sustainable fashion brand back on track!
Tip #1: Know Your Why
If we’re being honest, entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster of emotions from self-doubt to pride and everything in-between. So through the highs and lows of it all, you’re going to need something to anchor into to keep you going.
You need your WHY. For Recloseted, our why is to right the harmful fashion industry. So even when things get tough, when we hear back “NO” and when things don’t work out, we come back to this WHY and our purpose for doing this. And it helps us to keep going.
So what’s your why? What will keep you going? What will motivate you when you are feeling low?
ACTIONS:
Think of your why (there can be more than one!)
Write it down on a Post-It note and keep it at your work desk so you can see it every day
Tip #2: Celebrate Your Wins
Remember to acknowledge your “wins” or keep a celebration list! It might seem conceited or silly at first, but we find that entrepreneurs (especially women) tend to brush off their wins and milestones and not care about them and agonize over any setbacks.
At Recloseted, we started making a wins/celebrations/accomplishments list and it’s been helpful to look at whenever we feel like things aren’t going the way we want them to. It can be a friendly reminder that you can do it, you’ve done amazing things before and you’re going to do even more amazing things.
Tip #3: Make It Easy
If you often find yourself overcomplicating things and wanting everything to be 100% perfect, you’re not the only one. As an entrepreneur, your business is like your baby, and you want nothing less than the best for it, but remember that sometimes you can get away with 80% perfection.
We know it’s easier said than done, but don’t make things challenging when they don’t need to be. Take a step back from the situation and think about how you can make things EASY. This simple shift in mindset will help you to focus your time and energy on the things that matter, rather than stressing about every single little detail in your business.
Tip #4: Take Care Of Yourself
You can’t take care of your to-do list if you don’t take care of yourself. It can be challenging to put yourself first, but trust us, bettering yourself will only better your business.
We know that self-care often comes with a reputation for being expensive, but it doesn’t always have to be a weekend getaway or a spa facial - there’s lots of self-care that’s free!
ACTIONS:
Sleep at least 8 hours a day (sleep is our time to recover, clear our mind and press reset)
Set boundaries (learn to say no when you don’t have the capacity for anything else)
Meditate at least once a day (this can lower your stress and anxiety levels)
Move your body daily (walking, running, standing up at your desk)
Read a book
Take a bath
Tip #5: Hold the Vision, Trust the Process
You haven’t failed until you give up. Everything in between is learning lessons, trial and error, and pivots. Something we’ve been believing in more is that everything happens for a reason and that the universe has our backs.
Earlier this month, we got some bad news that a high-ticket client had decided to indefinitely delay starting 1:1 sustainability consulting services with us. COVID-19 had hit them hard, budgets were cut and they had to focus on staying afloat and remaining in business. Although this was initially disappointing and upsetting because we were looking forward to working with them — it would’ve been our biggest profile client to date and we were excited about the impact on the fashion industry but we realized this was a blessing in disguise.
We were already burning out and feeling overloaded with our current roster of clients in LYB and AYB — it would’ve been a lot to handle. Instead, this allowed us to hit reset, rest up, ensure everything in the business was running smoothly from marketing to sales to operations to team processes, and dedicate more time and energy to current clients.
We know a lot of you also have had lower sales or big contracts fall through because of COVID-19 but take this as an opportunity to do some things you haven’t had time to do.
ACTIONS:
Reconsider your current marketing tactics
Update your sales funnel and processes
Get your business in tip-top shape
